Terms of service

What this instrument promises, what it refuses to claim, and how to change a receipt.

The service

Receipts is operated by Schmade. It produces evidence reports about publicly accessible websites, on request. A report lists what public records were found and what was not found. It does not issue verdicts, it does not call any site a scam or a fraud, and it does not accuse any person of anything. The strongest statement a report makes is that claims outpace evidence. You read the evidence and you draw your own conclusion.

Reports are dated snapshots

A receipt describes the moment its scan ran, nothing more. Sites change. A report that was accurate on the day it was printed can be out of date a week later, which is why every receipt carries its date. Old receipts are not corrected in place. The remedy for a stale receipt is a fresh one.

Rescans and removal

Anyone can rescan a site. If you own a site that was flagged, fix what was flagged and pull a fresh receipt. The new report gets its own link, and both reports remain accessible at their own URLs, because the record of improvement is part of the record.

Reports are never removed in exchange for payment. Removal requests for legal or safety reasons go to hello@getreceipts.dev and are decided by a human at Schmade.

No warranty on findings

Findings are produced by automated checks against public records, and public records are imperfect. A check that cannot run reports could not verify and counts for nothing against the site. The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and Schmade is not liable for decisions made on the basis of a report. If you believe a finding is factually wrong, write to the address above and it will be reviewed.

The language rules

Every report follows the same rules. Findings are stated as evidence found or evidence not found, never as character judgments. Uncertainty is stated plainly. Nothing is exaggerated for effect. The same rules apply to this page: if a receipt of this site would flag a legal page for naming the wrong company or promising things it cannot keep, this page has failed its own scanner.
